With a background in Thai literature studies and graphic design, Moonmanas appealed to Thai audiences by incorporating familiar points of interest that kindled the underlying ideas behind his visuals. However, during his residency in Paris, he altered his stance after encountering a new demographic that does not possess an understanding of the Thai context. The lack of context allows viewers to find personal meaning in the work, based on their own lived experiences. As Thailand/Siam never existed in isolation, neither does the rest of the world. Moonmanas’s artwork, even as a specific memoir on one fragment of local history, can elicit a response from the audience regardless of background through the intentional absence of a frame of reference. The East and the West, us and them, and disorientation and unity are all basic themes that anyone can easily relate to and can be applicable intersectionally.
